As a co-sponsor of the 2017 Lunar New Year Multi-cultural Charity Gala Jasmine is happy to announce that we had over 380 participants at the event and have raised a net income of $10,164.00 to support the charity and humanitarian projects of San Diego United Lions Club. Donations are on their way to The Monarch School of San Diego, Education for Humanity/Americans Helping Asian Children and American Chinese Cultural and Education Foundation to support the very much needed education of underprivileged children in order to provide a life changing opportunity for the children and their families. Thank you!

On December 4, 2013, approximately 350 San Diegans gathered at Jasmine Seafood Restaurant to raise money for Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts. Over $13,000 was raised with all food and venue donated by Jasmine. Artistic youths donated their singing talents to contribute $1300 in fundraising efforts.
The ultimate goal of the organizing group composed mainly of Lions Club members and Jasmine Seafood Restaurant is to ultimately raise $66,000 to build a sustainable village of 20 homes, costing $3300 each, through the ongoing 15 year nation-building work of Gawad Kalinga, an international organization based in the Philippines with U.S. 501(c)3 designation.
Dr. Allen Chan, owner of Jasmine Seafood Restaurant and Lions Club member, remarked, “Charity has no national boundaries. It is not affected by the color of your skin nor is it the privilege of the rich few. Anyone, no matter what social economic status you belong to, can lend a helping hand by volunteering your time and effort or donating your money, or both.” In November the Vietnamese American community of San Diego also raised $12,000 for Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts.
Upcoming fundraising events to achieve the village building goal include:
1. December 31, 2013 – New Year’s Eve Countdown Party at Jasmine Seafood Restaurant
2. January 24, 2014 – Multi-ethnic Lunar New Year Celebration at Jasmine Seafood Restaurant.
Donations may also be made directly to the San Diego United Lions Club via their website.

The Lunar New Year is the biggest and most celebrated holiday in Chinese tradition. It is customary to give children “lucky money” in much coveted “red envelopes” in exchange for well wishes. Folks of all ages enjoy watching Lucky Lion Dancers trained in martial arts and acrobatics “dancing” to traditional Chinese drums, cymbals, bells and other instruments. As the Lion Dancers near, celebrants will “feed” the Lions lucky red envelopes with money as a symbol of bringing luck and fortune. The more you give, the more you get in return! The video below shows just that from a previous performance at Jasmine Restaurant. Enjoy!
Please also note that Monday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 17 we will be closing at 8:30pm. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
